Guw`aadzi Hauba, “Hello everyone” – Welcome to the Yaak’a Cafe
Experience a taste of Acoma culture at the Yaak’a Café, located within the Sky City Cultural Center and Haak’u Museum. Yaak’a means "corn" in Keres, the language of Acoma. Corn was farmed by the Acomans for centuries in the valley beneath the 367-foot mesa where we live. It has sustained us for hundreds of years and is intertwined with religious ceremonies and art.
The Yaak’a Café opened its doors in April 2006, offering a diverse menu of Acoma traditional foods as well as contemporary American dishes. The café is cozy and sunny with a corner fireplace and windows on three sides allowing diners to watch the dances in the plaza. The café also has an airy opening to the outside courtyard.
The Yaak’a Café is open daily from 8:00am to 4:30pm mid-October through mid-March and 8:00am to 5:30pm mid-March through mid-October.
