Luminaries Tour
December 24, 2008

Join the people of Acoma as they celebrate a unique Christmas tradition at the historic Sky City. “There are no electric lights in the Acoma Valley,” says Acoma Business Enterprises CEO Marvis Aragon. “So it is very dark. On December 24th (Christmas Eve) the road from the overlook, through the valley floor, to the top of the mesa will be lined with three thousand luminaries.” According to Aragon, the luminaries don’t just line the road, they occupy the rooftops throughout the mesa-top city and will be alight with their soft glow. The massive San Esteban del Rey Mission and Sky City Cultural Center will also be lined with the candle-lit paper sacks. It is a once in a life time experience!
Everyone is invited to drive through the valley this evening to see this beautiful site; however, the activities on the mesa top are now closed to the general public. The luminaries are lit at sundown and stay lit until approximately 10:00PM. For more information call 1-800-747-0181.
